
The Casa de la Trova of Santiago was the chosen spot for screening some ofthe interviews filmed almost seven years ago during the a visit of U.S.producer Cynthia Biestek.
The director of “Trova de Oro”, Ruben Gomez Neyra, told ACN that thepurpose of the documentary is to pay tribute to several important figuresof the Cuban New Song Movement in the province.
Gomez explained that at the moment of the shooting, many of thesepersonalities were very old, and it was impossible to let them die withouthaving recorded their memories and images.
The documentary comprises statements by three of the biggestrepresentatives of this movement in the province: Ñico Saquito Jr.,Calixto Cardona, and Roberto Napoles; the three of them passed away beforethe film was ready.
He noted that the documentary also includes valuable testimonies by otherimportant figures of Cuban music like Omara Portuondo, Lino Beatancourt,and Eliades Ochoa.
Gomez affirmed that he is confident that this documentary will serve as asource of information for its content; and the high amount of notes,images, and statements, many of which were the last ones made by thosepersonalities.
“Trova de Oro”, by the independent film production companyPositivationFilms, with nearly 1 hour and 20 minutes, will be finished bythe end of the year so as to be presented in the upcoming Festival of NewLatin American Cinema in Havana next December.
